Unwrap the box with Chrisa Tzortzaki-Stratoudakis

Assembling custom made gift boxes is our way to express our passion for anything Greek of incomparable quality. This is how we get closer to you. But this time we want to turn the spotlight on the people that inspire us. So, this is the eighth episode of the "Unwrap the box" interview concept and we're feeling extra excited today! Our guest for this episode of "Unwrap the Box" is Chrisa Tzortzaki-Stratoudakis, the Creativity and Innovation Consultant of TheChrisaGroup.

We are curious about what she has to share with us! Five questions, 5 minutes, words that will stay with us forever! #begreek

If you were to put in a box your favorite memory, what would that be?

I tend to connect smells, scents, and aromas to memories because I feel that they are strongly intertwined. I believe aromas make memories stronger, more intense because they have the power to bring a long-gone past moment to the present, in the blink of an eye. My favorite memory is my first memory actually! The smell of the wet soil as potatoes were harvested in Lasithi. Or the smell of the air during grape harvest at my grandfather’s vineyard.

What’s the one thing that always reminds you of Greece?

If you asked me this question while I was still living in Greece, I would have said the summer Aegean breeze. But having been in the USA for the past couple of years, I would have to say the smell of smoke coming from the chimneys on cold, misty mornings. For some reason, I have connected this to the Greek hospitality, because if you walk by a village on a quiet winter morning, there is always a door that will open for you with a kind, curious smile and a heartwarming welcome, along with a warm meal – preferably by the fireplace.

What would be a perfect gift from Greece?

A bottle of wine and a box of matzourana (marjoram) herbal tea. They both warm the heart up. The bottle of wine to share with friends and the matzourana tea for the cold lonely winter nights. Oh and snails! Although I don’t know how one can send them overseas, I would consider anyone who tried to send me a bag of snails, to be a REALLY good friend.

Have you ever tried to make from scratch something for a loved one?  Was it a success?

I was never really crafty but one year I took on knitting. I was so clumsy at it that I was lifting my hands every time a completed a knot until it was physically exhausting; I don’t recommend knitting with your hands at the same level as your head! But somehow I made it. It was a scarf for my then-boyfriend, now husband. I guess it was a success since we got married a little after I gifted him the scarf.

If your summer vacation were a gift box, what island of Greece would be a part of it, and why?

I would have to say, Crete. Not because I was born and raised in Crete, but because it seems as if it has the essence of all the Greek islands in one shot. The golden beaches, the hike-worthy mountains, the ancient sights, the Cretan food, the wine, the people with filotimo, the Greek hospitality, the music, and the dancing at the village square until dawn.

Today's episode of Unwrap the box interview concept with our guest Chrisa Tzortzaki-Stratoudakis is now over. We loved how effortlessly her love for Greece was transferred to us. We wish we could talk for hours to come and share even more memories but, still, we will cherish this moment! Cheers the ones about to come!
